Jesus Burgers – Friday

Jesus Burgers fired back up Friday as tons of people flocked into the property…the biggest freshmen class of UCSB moved in (almost 5,000 people) this week.  In all my years in IV, I have never seen as many people as I saw on the streets Friday, aside from Halloween weekend.  Please pray for the city of IV and all that God is doing to bring heaven into earth.

This last Friday was powerful as God visited us in a tangible way at the Upper Room. We then brought this love onto the streets…already countless testimonies of God’s goodness and the year is just beginning!!

“Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery.”  (1 Tim 4:4)

10 Year Celebration

IVC celebrated 10 years of God’s faithfulness on Sunday at the Gathering.

Jacob Reeve, the founding pastor, joined us as we recounted some of the great things the Lord has done over the years…we are convinced the best days await the city of IV and the IV Church family!!

“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.  Then it was said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.  The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.'” (Psalm 126)

Jake Hamilton – Book Endorsement

I love this man, one of the more authentic people I know. He makes me want to be a better husband and father.

This is an endorsement for the Jesus Burgers book:

“Jesus Burgers is the simple story of what happens when people fall in love with Jesus and decide to share that love with a city. Jason, Holly, and the whole IV crew are revolutionizing what it means to be a missionary in America and I know it is just the beginning of their journey. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear this incredible story and hear Gods call into a life of radical obedience for the sake of love.” -Jake Hamilton; Jesus Culture Music Artist

Many Members, Yet One Body

“For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” (Romans 12:4-5)

Some of the IV Church family came up and testified of what God did on Friday night at the Sunday Gathering…and lets just say He did some amazing things!!  We are super stoked for the year and are anticipating great things as UCSB is scheduled to begin at the end of this month.

It is such an honor to lead a church that is not afraid to brag about Jesus and share what He is doing in their life. I really believe we are living in the days that it’s no longer about a super star pastor, but rather about a super star body of believers.

Minister to One Another

Here are a few pictures from last Friday night…we had a night of worshiping the King, ministering to one another, and loving the city.

Please pray for IV, as the students are back and the city is in full swing.

Pray Hard – Work Hard – Trust God

This is a sign that is on our front patio as you’re entering our home.

I am thankful that God gave us a model for working (work 6 days, rest 1) and that Jesus showed us what a life of prayer and trust in our Father looks like.  Work, prayer, and trust are important to the kingdom of God.  My prayer for the IV Church family is that we would value each of these and live lives of worship in all we do.

Pray 4 IV

About 40 of us or so went out last night to love the city and pray for people…God showed up powerfully!  However, the city was intense and a great deal was going on in both the spiritual realm and in the natural.

This is a picture of a guy who either got knocked out in a fight or was too intoxicated to stand (I heard both stories).

Please pray for the city of IV, and in the words of Jeremiah the prophet: “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried…Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”

Sunday Family Gathering

Here are a few pictures from last Sunday. We absolutely love our IV Church family!  God goodness is overwhelmingly powerful as He is sending us people who love Him and one another so well. Please pray for IVC, as we are beginning a new year!!

How wonderful, how beautiful, when brothers and sisters get along!
It’s like costly anointing oil flowing down head and beard, flowing down Aaron’s beard, flowing down the collar of his priestly robes. It’s like the dew on Mount Hermon flowing down the slopes of Zion. Yes, that’s where God commands the blessing, ordains eternal life.” (Psalm 133)

This is from a guy named Ryan who lived at the Jesus Burgers House for a few years and was part of the church for about 5yrs, he lives in NY now:

“I meet a guy last night that does real estate here in the city who went to ucsb around 10 years ago.  He wasn’t walking with the Lord then but used to live on dp.  He said he remembers a house that used to cook burgers for all the partiers and talk about Jesus.  He’s going to church now and is in love with God.  So encouraging!  Prayer changes things!”

Learning to Walk

This is a picture of Andy teaching Joanna to walk.  I met Andy about 5 years ago on the UCSB campus – it has been such a blessing watching him come to Christ and grow up in the Lord.  I believe Heaven gets excited about a lot of things, but one thing it for sure gets excited about is when someone gives their life to Christ.

“I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”  – Jesus

THE FAMILY OF GOD (new book)

We need to raise $6,000 for our new book on The Family of God: True Stories of Church Growing Into a Family. Please consider contributing ($25 or more = free book)

The IVC family is excited to publish its second book. We are so thankful for the release of Jesus Burgers Book and the work that God is doing through it. For us, church is a family you belong to, not just a place you go to. Psalm 68:6 says, “God places the lonely in families.” This book will testify to the journey of our church growing into a family. It will highlight four core values that our family culture has embraced:

  • Community Living
  • Fathering & Mothering
  • Bond through Battle
  • Fostering Champions

Each core value will be reiterated with several life testimonies, all written by members of our own family. There will be over twenty contributing authors to this book. God has been faithful to grow our family and we are excited to testify to the good work that He has begun. Please consider supporting the publication of this book. All donations help; and any donations of $25 or more will receive a free book.

Thank you for your partnership, and we are honored to share God’s family with you!

Jason Lomelino & Lucas Bell

* Lord willing the book will be released in February of 2013

I received a sweet testimony from a guy named Nick who came to IVC for the first time on Sunday:

Hey Jason,

I kinda had a moment last night where a bunch of things clicked after I talked to you..

About 5 years ago I went to this really small prayer/worship house after getting back from a church camp in the Newhall/Santa Clarita area.. I had never been there before but a friend told me about it so I went. A guest spoke there, and I remember him talking about where he came from and how he ministered to the youth, and how he was surrounded by all these kids from this “party-school”. And I distinctly remember him talking about making burgers for the kids and how they gave them the name Jesus burgers. It was a pretty long time ago but the name stuck in my head and I remember being so shocked by your hardcore fearless approach to evangelizing to the youth.. Anyways.. I wanted to share that with you and recognize the seeds that you’ve planted and tell you how amazing it is to see the work you are doing for his kingdom. I am so inspired and now I am going to take a big bite out of this Jesus burgers book!

The Cost of Revival

I’d like to share a blog post from an incredible woman of God who lives in South Africa. Her name is May Lindsay and she lived at the Jesus Burgers house the first three years it was established.

This was a good yet hard read for me because she discusses a guy who lived at the Jesus Burgers house the same time she did, but ended up taking his life about 3 weeks ago. His name was Josh and I will never forget this man. Back in the day Josh loved God, had an incredible gift for making people feel comfortable, and had an earnest desire for family. And although I have not been apart of Josh’s life for 8 years, I can honestly say he will be missed by many.

Please take time to read this, it contains a lot of good reminders concerning the importance of family, thankfulness, and the struggles of feeling lost in life.
