About 15 of us gathered Wednesday for pizza and to watch a movie called Beware of Christians.  Surpirisibly is was better than I thought it was going to be:

I meant to take a few pictures, though completely forgot.

Here is a picture that our friend An took last week, more to come in the weeks ahead.  Thankful for An, he used to be part of the IVC family before he moved back home last year (well that is incorrect, he will always be a part of the IVC family – we love you An).

Family Time @ Super Cucas

A group of about 30 of us went to Super Cucas for dinner tonight.  Normally we do dinner at our house after the Sunday Gathering; however, I decided to show the movie Father of Lights tonight at 8pm so whoever wanted to eat went out to dinner before it began.

I love family time of eating together, chilling, and seeing new people join the family…God is good, always faithful. Our new friend Kalu, from Brazil, used her camera to take this picture. Classic shot of Krissy & Allie in the front, love these ladies!

Jesus Burgers – a few comments from 2009

I found these comments from an article on Jesus Burgers written in a local newspaper in 2009, kind words and all glory to Jesus:

Bob Romanelli says:

Thanks for a really good and honest article about Isla Vista Church and one of its most solid ministries to the community. Jesus Burgers is love in action. That’s what we need to see more of among people of all faiths. I think Jason Lomelino has it figured out: the institutional church just isn’t reflecting the Spirit of Christ, but the organic church, like the Early Church during the first 300 years of Christianity, is alive and well today, operating outside the institutional structures but inside the caring and compassion for other people that fills the pages of the New Testament book, The Acts of the Apostles. So God bless The Bottom Line for speaking out with fair and balanced news. Didn’t Jesus say, “Anyone who feeds a hamburger to a hungry college student feeds it also to me.” UCSB Bible Translation!

Alan says:

I had the distinct pleasure of living at the “Jesus Burgers” house for two years while in school at UCSB. It was the hardest, dirtiest, most-crowded, most-challenging place I have ever lived (which is saying something) and I wouldn’t change a minute of it. I met so many incredible people while living on DP and got to live out my faith in an honest and open way. I saw SEVERAL couches be lit on fire (and one Volvo) and several people meet Jesus in a real and genuine way for the first time. There was quite a range. Haha. Good times!

Nice write up btw.

Car Wash Fun

The kids had a blast today playing in the water and hanging with some of the IVC family…thankful to see my children learning to enjoy work and help others at a young age.

Hands of Love, Prayers of Faith

“My sheep hear My voice” – Jesus

Prayer is powerful, especially when being prayed for by a great deal of people. We prayed and prophesied over many on Sunday and setup a prayer tunnel after the message for people to walk through.

I am thankful to be part of a church family that honors hearing the voice of God and hearing it for one another.

The Kingdom Belongs to Children

We ended the Sunday gathering creating a prayer tunnel to have people walk through. Some of our family friends were visiting and their children wanted to walk through it (along with Hope). It was precious and made me think of the story in Matthew 19 when people were trying to bring the children to Jesus to bless them,

“Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, ‘Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'”

Children are a blessings, never an inconvenience…thankful for all the great reminders that Jesus gives us concerning those who inherit the kingdom.

Roger Joyner & the Burn Wagon

This last weekend our friend Roger Joyner and the Burn Wagon ( came through…the team of 10 stayed with us for two nights and shared an encouraging word on Sunday.

Holly and I are grateful for all the amazing people God continually sends us as we open our house and church to them.  Just as Jesus said, “He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.”

There is great reward when we receive others into our lives and churches. Check out Roger Joyner’s website, he is an amazing man of God:

Jesus Burgers House

The Jesus Burgers house (and some alumni) had a BBQ and hangout time on Saturday together. Holly and I could not be more thankful for this home and all the great stuff that happens here on a continuous basis.

Please pray for the home, as September will be here soon and Jesus Burgers will be fired back up on Friday nights.

And I must say we are ALL excited as a church family for the release of the book in about a month!

Union – yay God

A new couple, Jeremy & Marissa, moved to Isla Vista last week to be a part of the church…they got married yesterday on a beach in Santa Barbara!

Holly was the wedding coordinator, and she did a fabulous job.  It was an epic day of celebrating them and rejoicing in the miracle of God joining two lives into one!  We, the IV Church family, could not be more thankful to have these two pure hearted people join the work of God in Isla Vista.

Pray For One Another

Something the IV Church family loves to do is to pray for one another…the Word of God is full of promises concerning the power of prayer. Here is one of my favorite verses out of the book of James: “…pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.”

Personal prayer times for people is like a bomb of love–God’s love through His people.

Summer Worship Night

Here are a few pictures from our worship night this last Saturday…about 50 of us packed into the prayer shed for 2 hrs to love Jesus and one another.  Thankful for the summer and spontaneous times of worship, meals together, and movies.

Jeremiah – Pizza Boy

We went out for pizza tonight…it’s Jeremiah’s absolute favorite meal.  As you can see, he thoroughly enjoyed it!

Holly’s mom is in town from Texas, I will post another picture tomorrow of his haircut with her (which he did not enjoy as much, even though he does love his Nana very much).

Sueno Tabernacle

The summer is a sweet time of regrouping and downshifting, as the school year brings a lot of intensity with it.  We move the Sunday Gathering to our backyard as about 1/2 the family splits for a few months.

The Sueno Tabernacle is a perfect location for the IV Church family as the weather is great, it is very homey, and makes it easy to have dinners together each week.  We have a collective setup of furniture in our backyard with pews, couches, and chairs for people to sit.

“They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”  (Acts 2:42)
